Meet the Team - Daz Kelsey-Clinch

When did you join HEX Graphics?

I joined HEX Graphics in 2022, joining as a Graphics Production Operative. 16 months later and I’m still really enjoying the role.

Have you always worked within the graphics industry?

I started my career through an apprenticeship route doing electrical engineering, which took a total of four and a half years. After completing my training, I joined the council to put my apprenticeship into practice.

After this, I moved on to another role within the council for four years removing asbestos.

Now I’m happy to have started my new career path within graphics.

What’s your day-to-day work life look like?

The job is really varied, which keeps things interesting. After having a handover to have a run down of which major fleets we are working on that day, we get right into it.

I get involved with all production work preparing the graphics to be applied, including, printing, laminating and cutting. I get involved with two of our cutting processes, kiss cutting and our standard system too.

What are the key elements to your role?

One of the most important things is knowing the machines you’re working with. Machine knowledge is absolutely crucial, as soon as you know your tools you’re away.

I really enjoy helping train new staff. Watching them grow and progress is really fun.

Is quality important?

Quality is absolutely at key to what we do. Sustainability is close to all of our hearts, so we are always working hard to produce the best work whilst creating minimal waste.

Making sure the materials are on point in the machine allows us to get precise cuts, reducing waste and also saving cost.

What do you like about your role?

Every day is different, even though the processes are similar it's not repetitive work.

Virtually every job has a different outcome, so it’s a really nice variation that breaks up the day.

I really enjoy getting involved in the smaller volume jobs and one of jobs that we do, like our wrap for Buzzballs. It’s really interesting seeing how a project goes from concept into a finished product.
